Comparing Concealer Brands
Do you know the ingredients in your concealer? As I dug through dozens and dozens of popular makeup labels for this post I couldn’t believe the ingredients found in concealer, including brands I’ve personally used before I knew better! For starters, the very first one had not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 PARABENS listed on the label!!
I know I’m not alone. Who else is guilty of using these or similar brands? If only I knew back then what I know now. I was young and grabbed the popular and trendy brands without even a thought about ingredients. I spent more time looking into all of the shades than I did the ingredients.
Not anymore! I spent the entire morning looking through labels to be able to share with you ladies. In this post I’ll share some of the common ingredients found in conventional concealer brands and then I’ll also share my favorite safe swap that meets both my picky standards for both ingredients AND performance. Let’s dive in!
Here are some common ingredients I found:
Parabens- Estrogen-mimicking properties, linked to breast cancer. In a study, 99%
of the breast cancer tissue samples tested positive for parabens, 60% having 5 different parabens!
Talc – linked to various reproductive cancers, asbestos contamination, and the biggest talc brand is currently facing over 100,000 lawsuits.
– may harm your central nervous system and cause depression, kidney damage, skin irritation, headaches, dizziness, nausea and drowsiness.
PEGs – independent studies show that most polyethylene glycol compounds remain contaminated with the known carcinogen, 1,4 Dioxane.
Retinyl Palmitate – animal studies have shown that retinyl palmitate speeds up the photo-carcinogenic effects of the sun and the development of skin tumors and lesions.
Paraffin – petroleum derived. Can contain carcinogenic Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), due to incomplete refining in the US.
Bismuth Oxychloride – a common ‘filler’ ingredient that mineral makeup companies use in their products because it is inexpensive, however it is synthetically manufactured from bismuth (a metal), oxygen, and chlorine.
Propylene Glycol – it is a known skin irritant and is frequently associated with contact dermatitis.
Not to mention the lack of ingredients that are actually GOOD for your skin!
In other words, it’s time to ditch your toxic concealer and decrease your body burden!
In comparison, it is loaded with nourishing ingredients like:
Organic Avocado Oil – promotes soft & radiant skin.
Organic Jojoba Seed Oil – rich source of fatty acids that provide a fresh, revitalized glow.
Organic Shea Butter – rich in vitamins and fatty acids that aid in soothing and conditioning the skin.
Elderberry – provides powerful antioxidant activity to help promote beautiful, soft skin.
Fruit Wax- works to provide a high performing anti-crease formula.
Not only is it GOOD for your skin, but the performance is incredible!
